Great Wall of China

Another China Site

So the first thing you might be asking is… why another site having to do with China? Well, it is the hot topic on everyone’s mind, and although there are many people with inside perspectives, I would like to give you mine: a look into one of the more seedy, money driven side of China… ie Shenzhen, or Sin City as I like to call it.

Well, it’s not quite that bad, but living here for too long can leave a bit of an impression on you that everyone is out for theirs and theirs alone in this city.

Shenzhen, the epitome of modern China

Really, I hope that you get a picture of the more modern China that is emerging from this website. There isn’t a better representative of the modernization of China than Shenzhen. People come here for money, and that’s what some of them get. Shanghai and Beijing, and even Guangzhou to an extent, are exceptions, cities with real histories, interesting things to see & do, you know, culture.

Shenzhen is all the rest of China. The money, development, and rising up of the Chinese businessman and consumer. The green stuff is what is happening here, for better or worse. As a whole I am somewhat ambivalent about all of this, but China is developing fast. In some ways she is destroying herself (read: pollution), in other ways she is giving a lot of people the chance to make money if they work hard enough for it.

Anyway, don’t expect many real insights about traditional Chinese culture from this site. This will be a more real side to the modern China we are all hearing more and more about.
