Another Christmas in China

SnowmanWhen you’re far away from home holidays pass, one after another, like any other day, and eventually start to lose their significance. A bucket from KFC is no substitution for Thanksgiving - unless your whole family is huddled around the bucket, giving thanks.

In the same sense, Christmas trees in front of the larger malls in Shanghai do not make Christmas - though going to church if you are a Christian probably would. Personally, though, it’s family that makes the holiday a real holiday. No amount of carolers (none to speak of here) or giant Christmas trees can make up for that.

When you’ve been here long enough, even Chinese holidays can begin to take on more significance than Western ones, at least when they are important to those you love. This year I decided to stay in China to pass the holidays. Otherwise my girlfriend would be alone once again for two important ones. And the truth is, Christmas with her means quite a lot.

A Christmas Present For You

It’s about time that most of the ads on this site where taken off. Now, only the landing pages from search results (including site wide searches) will have ads.

Whether you are at home or in China this holiday season, a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, or Happy Holidays to all. The truth, of course, is that Christmas (and any other holiday) is what you make of it. And now, I’m going to try and make it a great holiday after all.

    Merry X’mas!`
For me personally the best holliday is being able to enjoy a nice cup of tea with someone.

Christmas is all about family and close friends. No matter the beverage. Merry Christmas.
