China Air-Safety Record -> Worst to Best

An article in The Wall Street Journal today notes that China used to be among the worst countries in the world for air-safety – now it is one of the best, even better than most of Europe or America:

Today, China is an acclaimed global leader in air safety. Despite frequent double-digit annual growth in the number of hours its airlines fly, their most recent fatal-accident rates are lower than America’s and Europe’s.

This proves, of course, that concentrated effort by central Chinese leadership (with the help of many foreign companies and agencies as noted in the article) can make an enormous difference. While product and food safety is a bit of a bigger area to wrap its arms around, it’s something that should be changeable. Right?
