China Passenger Airplanes May Need 3400 Planes in the Next 20 Years, Domestic Air Travel Market to Grow Fivefold

That’s right, 3400 planes, as recounted in this translation from Modern Weekly:

Boeing predicts that in the next 20 years growing airline passenger demands will cause Chinese airlines to buy 3400 new planes, for a total value of US$340 billion. During this timeframe, China may lead the world in the growth of the commercial airline market, becoming the biggest commercial airline market outside of the United States.

According to a slightly more detailed article at the Chicago Tribune, it seems like China’s commercial airline market will increase several fold in size during this same period:

China’s domestic air travel market is expected to grow nearly fivefold by 2026 “to become slightly larger than today’s Intra-North American market,” the report said.
