Housing Prices in Pudong, Shanghai

The last several days have been a whirlwind of looking for houses in Pudong, Shanghai (Shanghai is divided into Puxi and Pudong - roughly West Pu and East Pu… Puxi is the old city, Pudong is the city rising up in the east, parts of which are starting to get the feel of downtown Hong Kong).

After looking at 20+ places, I finally found a place and am moving in today. Internet may be at least a couple days away, so this is the last post for a while (from my hotel room - 200RMB/night - very nice room but single bed in Puxi, next to a somewhat out of the way subway station).

Widely Varying Housing Prices in Pudong

Prices for housing in Pudong are among the most divergent in the world, as you have barely acceptable (to my standards) yet rather old two bedroom housing for about 2,000RMB/Month (rent), and from there the sky is the limit (people paying 120,000 RMB/Month for luxury 150 square meter places just several blocks away from where I am living).

I found a place for 2,200 RMB/Month, and am happy with it. It is fairly old, but its clean and feels enough like home to sacrifice another 1,000-3,000 RMB/Month for a place that feels really clean and new.
