I think it's creepy to tell a little girl - we can use your voice but not your face because you're not cute enough.

Nope, haven't seen it. And even though I refuse to watch American Idol, I will keep my eyes out for Avenue of Stars.

Sarah - yeah! They must have gotten lazy in their search. Then again, have you seen avenue of stars? （星光大道） They obviously have a big pool to choose from and yet it seems much worse than American Idol.

While I agree it is not that big of a deal it does make me ask one question. With the population of China being what it is, could they seriously not find a girl that was cute AND could sing? I think they got lazy in their search.

I used to have a Chinese friend here who played in a band with 4 other regular musicians and all together 11 guitarists total. His university had a 75th anniversary celebration and show, and he and all of the other band members were asked to perform. He took me a long to the show to see them play. I was backstage with them while they were preparing to go on...and I noticed that they all had the plug end of the cords from their guitars in their pockets.

My friend explained to me that even though the head of the school thought that they were great musicians, he was too afraid that even one tiny mistake would be made and insisted that they "play" their own pre-recorded music.

I think that maybe it isn't just performances on a world-wide scale that China insists on wanting to present perfection...

Except for one minor point: if there was truly nothing wrong with it, then why did the government rush to censor internet discussion immediately following (like putting toothpaste back it the tube)?

Makes me ask what else has not made it to light. Perhaps my student was right: it's only cheating if you get caught.

Now that's sportsmanship!

It's a show, so I think: so what? They put the better performer and better voice in to make a better show. No big deal.
